PROCEDURE

Revenue generated from the use of University real estate by external groups, can be distributed to the administrative unit to which the real estate is assigned IF the real estate was acquired & constructed with, and is operated with, non-legislative funds. For example, Coffman Memorial Union can receive rental income derived from the ATM machine placed on its premises by Twin City Federal Bank.

Administrative units that provide services (copying, telephone, etc.) to non-University groups can be reimbursed for such costs.

All other rental income is generally retained in the Central Reserve after reimbursement to University units which incur costs related to the revenue. For example, the West Bank Union would be reimbursed for the cost of electricity for the ATM machine located in the Social Science Building (assigned to the West Bank Union).

IMPORTANT: The issue of how best to distribute all earned business income was addressed in a recent report by the Brenner Committee and is currently being reviewed. The contents of this procedure will probably be changed as a result of that review. Other changes may occur as a result of the new Provost positions. The procedures for distributing income from rentals will be developed in the near future.
