Use of Personal Vehicle
Departments may authorize faculty, staff, or students to use a personal or other private vehicle for University business in compliance with Administrative Policy: Using Vehicles on University Business.
Departments may authorize the use of a personal vehicle for University business when the cost and convenience are acceptable.
Departments must ensure drivers using personal vehicles for University business meet eligibility requirements found in Administrative Policy: Using Vehicles for University Business.
Accident deductibles, tickets, violations, etc. incurred by faculty, staff or students while using a personal vehicle for University business are the responsibility of the driver.
In the case of an accident, the driver/vehicle’s personal auto liability policy will respond on a primary basis until the policy limits are exhausted; the University’s auto insurance is excess.
- The University is not responsible for any physical damage to an employee’s vehicle.
- The driver/vehicle’s personal auto insurance provides primary insurance with minimum liability coverage of $100,000 per person/$300,000 per incident.
- Employees should have their own collision and comprehensive physical damage coverage.
- The employee bears the expense of any personal auto policy deductibles.
Mileage accrued by private vehicles will be paid in accordance with Administrative Policy: Traveling on University Business.
